Julian Ellis' other cases include sitting as an expert assessor in the Social Security Court in relation to an industrial deafness matter, the deafness being caused by textile machinery. He has also presented expert evidence to a VAT tribunal.

He has acted as both mediator and arbitrator.

Julian has also given evidence of fact in relation to a prosecution of prisoners assaulting officers in prison.

When Members of Boards of Visitors (now Independent Monitoring Boards) were responsible for adjudications on matters of serious breaches of prison discipline, he frequently was a member of the adjudicating panel as a trained adjudicator.
